Frequently asked questions
Does my file get uploaded anywhere?
No. The file never leaves your device: encryption and decryption happen entirely in your browser using the Web Crypto API. Notenz's servers never see the file or your passphrase.
What encryption does File Armor use?
AES-256-GCM, the same standard used by password managers and full-disk encryption tools. The encrypted file can only be opened with the exact passphrase you set.
What if I forget the passphrase?
There's no recovery, Notenz never stores it. Keep a hint somewhere safe. For the documents you need to find again, Notenz keeps them in one place with their dates. Your documents and notes are encrypted.
